In the 70s, when we read the name Marcus Miller on the album jackets of 33rpm's, and heard the groove in the vinyl furrow, we already reveled in his game. At the dawn of the 80s, Miles Davis hired him as his bassist, and the world discovered in his unique, feline power, energy and slap, the melodic verve of this unique musician. In 1986, "Tutu", sealed their collaboration for eternity. Marcus has recorded with Frank Sinatra, Roberta Flack, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Donald Fagen, Aretha Franklin, Bryan Ferry...an exhaustive list of legendary artists. And beyond working as a studio musician he continued to blossom as a producer, composer and bassist with longtime collaborators singer Luther Vandross and saxophonist David Sanborn.
In 1993, two years after the death of Miles Davis, he finally decided to release his first instrumental album, "The Sun Don't Lie", which began his career as a solo artist. This was followed by Tales, M2 (which won Miller his 2nd Grammy® for Best Contemporary Jazz Album), Silver Rain and Marcus. Power: The Essential Marcus Miller is the self-portrait of Miller's sound and music including both his own compositions and fresh interpretations of songs by John Coltrane, Ludwig Van Beethoven and the Beatles.
